NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 19, 2013 – The Colby-Sawyer College baseball team came back to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh and scored the game winning run in the eighth to defeat New England College, 5-4. The game was rescheduled from a rain out on Tuesday.

The Chargers took a 2-0 lead in their first at bat on a two-run double by junior Vinny Monahan (Foxboro, Mass.).

After a scoreless second inning, New England College struck for four runs in the top of the third. The Pilgrims opened the frame with three singles and a double. Freshman Conor Crouse (West Haven, Conn.), sophomore Christopher Smith (Raynham, Mass.), and junior Brandon Adorno (Ft. Myers, Fla.) each recorded a RBI in the inning.

Colby-Sawyer cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fifth thanks to an error and a wild pitch.

Chargers senior Tyler Stotz (Amesbury, Mass.) began the bottom of the seventh with a double and was followed by a game-tying RBI double from junior Andy Lapple (Newtown, Conn.) sending the game into extra innings.

The Pilgrims threatened in the top of the eighth with two base runners, but could not get anyone to score.

Freshman Jeff Dunn (Bellingham, Mass.) led off the eighth with a triple to the right center fence. He came around for the game-winning run when freshman Cody Pelletier (Lebanon, N.H.) hit a grounder to the third baseman who overthrew the first baseman allowing Dunn to score.

Junior Kevin Keith (Quincy, Mass.) earned his sixth win and second over NEC this week, after tossing a scoreless inning of relief. Junior Alex Drost (West Windsor, Vt.) went the first seven innings and gave up four runs on eight hits.

Sophomore Francesco DiRe (Barrington, R.I.) took the loss for the Pilgrims. Senior Chris Wallace (Manchester, N.H.) threw six strong innings. He gave up just two earned runs on three hits and struck out seven.

Colby-Sawyer will take a break from the NAC on Sunday for a doubleheader with Plymouth. First pitch is scheduled for noon. New England College travels to the University of Maine-Farmington for a pair of conference doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
