NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 18, 2013 – The Colby-Sawyer College baseball team fell to Castleton in both ends of Thursday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader. The Spartans came from behind in game one to win 9-6 and then won game two 14-0. 
Castleton remains atop the conference standings with a 16-2 record and improves to 19-7 overall.  Colby-Sawyer dips to 12-13 overall and 7-8 in the NAC.
GAME ONE – Castleton 9, Colby-Sawyer 6
Colby-Sawyer opened the scoring with a pair of runs in their first at bat. Sophomore 
Alex Fredette (Dover, N.H.) led off with a triple and then scored on a balk. Freshman 
Jeff Dunn (Bellingham, Mass.) then hit a run scoring single to knock in junior 
Andy Lapple (Newtown, Conn.)
The Chargers doubled the lead with another two runs in the third on RBI singles from junior 
Vinny Monahan (Foxboro, Mass.) and Dunn.
Castleton finally broke through with six runs in the top of fifth. The team had five hits and a walk in the frame. Sophomore Connor Hoagland (Granville, N.Y.) had a two-run single, while junior Macyn Clifford (Brookline, N.H.) added an RBI triple.
Colby-Sawyer responded with a run in the bottom half of the fifth, but the Spartans got the run back in their next at bat on a Hoagland RBI groundout.
The Spartans put the game away in the top of the seventh after junior Allen White (Rutland, Vt.) hit a two-run homer over the right field fence.
The Chargers scored once in their final at bat, but fell 9-6.
Freshman Cooper Long (Westminster, Vt.) earned his first collegiate win, while junior 
PJ Singster (Sandown, N.H.) took the loss for the Chargers.
GAME TWO – Castleton 14, Colby-Sawyer 0
Castleton scored four times in the second inning after drawing three walks and making them count with three singles. 
The Spartans added three runs in the third, two runs in the fourth and fifth, and three more in the sixth en route to the 14-0 win.
Castleton senior Ryan Zielinski (Schenectady, N.Y.), junior Joe Borowski (Schenectady, N.Y.), Macyn Clifford (Brookline, N.H.), and senior Mat Pause (Hartford, Vt.) each had two RBI in the game. Pause had a team-high three hits.
Hoagland and senior Cameron Curler (Vergennes, Vt.) each scored three times.
Sophomore Nate Swahn (Rutland, Vt.) earned his first win of the season after six shutout innings of work. He struck out six and surrendered five hits.
Senior 
Jordie Scheiner (Redding, Conn.) took the loss, but gave up only one earned run in 2.2 innings.
Colby-Sawyer will host New England College on Friday for a single game at 3:30 pm. Castleton hosts Thomas College for four games on Saturday and Sunday.
