NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 14, 2013 – The Colby-Sawyer College baseball team split with the University of Maine at Farmington in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader Sunday afternoon. UMF took game one 3-0, while the Chargers won the second game 2-0.
Colby-Sawyer goes to 11-11 overall and 6-6 in the NAC, while UMF goes to 4-12 overall and 3-9 in conference play.
GAME ONE – UMF 3, Colby-Sawyer 0
Each team squandered opportunities in the first inning after having three men reach base.
UMF scored a pair of runs in the top of the second after senior Ethan Jean (Jackson, Maine) and freshman Tom Grady (Whitefield, Maine) came around to score. Jean, who reached on a single, was knocked in by a Zach Keene (Livermore, Maine) single. Grady reached on a double and then scored on a double-play.
The Beavers added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a run scoring single by sophomore Matthew Woodbury (Fairfield, Maine).
The Chargers had multiple chances to score, but could not get anyone across the plate. Colby-Sawyer left 10 men on base.
Senior Casey Ashey (Searsport, Maine) earned his first win of the season for the Beavers. He tossed a complete game six-hitter. He struck out six and walked five.

Jordie Scheiner (Redding, Conn.) took the loss after surrendering three runs on eight hits.
GAME TWO – Colby-Sawyer 2, UMF 0

Alex Drost (West Windsor, Vt.) threw a complete game four-hit shutout in game two. He struck out seven to earn his first win of the season.
Sophomore T.J. O'Connor (Bethel, Maine) gave Colby-Sawyer a 1-0 lead in the home half of the second with an RBI single that scored senior

Sean Gavin (Keene, N.H.) knocked in the Chargers' second run with a sacrifice fly to right, which scored freshman
Jeff Dunn (Bellingham, Mass.).
Drost struck out the side in the sixth and then set down the final three Beavers in the seventh, after the leadoff hitter reached on an error.
Senior Dale Winchenbach (Waldoboro, Maine) gave up two runs on six hits in six innings of work in the loss.
Colby-Sawyer will host New England College on Tuesday for a twin bill at 2:00 pm. The University of Maine-Farmington hosts Thomas on Tuesday for a pair of games at 2:00 pm.
