HENNIKER, N.H. – April 10, 2013 - Six different Chargers would net goals as Colby-Sawyer College women's lacrosse beat the New England College Pilgrims 6-3 Wednesday afternoon.

The win marked the first time since 2008 that the Chargers have prevailed with less than 10 goals. (4/16/08 vs. Roger Williams). The Chargers improve to 4-7 overall and 2-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 4-8 on the season and gives them their first NAC loss of the season as they fall to 2-1 in conference.
The two teams would battle through the opening 12 minutes scoreless before Colby-Sawyer's
Caitlyn Whearty (Hampstead, N.H.) would break the drought netting her eleventh goal of the season unassisted.
The Chargers would take the 2-0 lead as
Amanda Murray (Norwood, Mass.) would pick up a loose ball and take it in for her first tally of the season at the 10:59 mark. Colby-Sawyer would close out the half with two more scores including a goal by
Carly Baker (Beverly, Mass.) assisted by
Adrienne Bender (Wakefield, R.I.) and an unassisted goal by
Sarah Harlow (Putney, Vt.).
The Pilgrims would respond in the second half with two early goals by Meredith Merce (Ocean, N.J.) cutting the Charger lead to 4-2. Colby-Sawyer would regain the three goal lead with 20 minutes remaining in regulation as Bender would net her first goal of the afternoon off a nice pass from behind the net by
Kate Rial (Chester Springs, Pa.).
The two teams would exchange goals around the ten minute mark of the second half but the Charger defense would prove too tough, holding the Pilgrims scoreless in the final eight minutes en route to the 6-3 victory.
Leading the way for Colby-Sawyer was
Adrienne Bender who finished with a goal and two assists.
NEC's Jacquelyn Lane (Scituate, Mass.) scored the other Pilgrim goal.
Picking up the win in net for Colby-Sawyer was
Karley Hamilton (Bradford, Vt.) who recorded an impressive nine saves. In net for NEC was Rebecca Harvey (Natick, Mass.) who finished with eight saves.
NEC returns to action on Saturday, April 13 when they host NAC foe Castleton State College. Colby-Sawyer will hit the field on Saturday, April 13 when they travel to battle conference opponent Husson University.
