WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - March 15, 2013 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team was swept by Wentworth at the Chain of Lakes baseball complex on Friday afternoon.
Wentworth (7-1) won the first game 17-3 and followed with an 8-5 victory in game two. Colby-Sawyer ends the trip to Florida with a 5-5 record.
GAME ONE - Wentworth 17, Colby-Sawyer 3
Jake Mailman went 4-5 with 5 RBI to lead the Leopards to the game one victory. Six other Wentworth players had two hits.
The Leopards opened the game with 11 runs in the first and sent 15 batters to the plate. Wentworth would add a single run in third, four in the fourth, and a run in the seventh en route to the win.
Ben Lewis earned the victory for the Leopards after tossing six innings. He gave up one earned run and struck out three. Johnny Ryan stuck out the side in the seventh in an inning of relief.
Cameron Knight led the Chargers with a pair of hits, a run scored and a run batted in.
GAME TWO - Wentworth 8, Colby-Sawyer 5
Mailman continued to deliver at the plate for Wentworth with a 4-4 effort in the second game. Jon Spitz and Sam McManus each added a pair of hits.
Wentworth scored twice in the first on an RBI double from Mailman and a sacrifice fly from Anthony Matera.
The Leopards added a run in the second and third innings to go in front 4-0.
Colby-Sawyer responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth on a two-run single from freshman
Jeff Dunn.
McManus drove in his second run of the game in the fifth to put Wentworth ahead 5-2.
Wentworth added three more runs in the home half of the sixth to stretch the lead to 8-2.
The Chargers made a game of it in the seventh with three runs.
Matt Muldoon began the scoring with a pinch hit RBI double. He was followed by an RBI ground out from junior
Jon Wylie. The third run was drove in on an RBI single from
Tyler Stotz.
The Chargers return to the northeast for a game on Thursday, March 21 at Gordon.
