AUBURNDALE, Fla. – March 11, 2013 – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team defeated Becker, 10-7 in one nine inning game at the Lake Myrtle complex, Tuesday evening.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 4-1, while Becker drops to 0-5.
Colby-Sawyer junior
Vinny Monahan led all players with four hits and three RBI. Junior

Cameron Knight added three hits apiece.
The Chargers scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by senior
Cameron Knight. Senior
Tyler Stotz scored on the play after reaching on a single.
Becker tied the game in their next at-bat in the top of the second. Senior Tom Natoli led off the inning with a triple and came around to score on a groundout by Evan Reilly.
The Hawks went on top 2-1 in the third after DJ Reed tripled and scored on a wild pitch.
Colby-Sawyer retook the lead with three runs in the fourth on a pair of hits and a Becker miscue.
Becker responded with three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. Senior Todd Tompkins drove in a pair with a single and then scored on a double steal attempt.
The Chargers put five runs up in the bottom half of the fifth to take a 9-5 advantage. Sophomore
Alex Fredette and junior
Vinny Monahan each had a two-run single in the inning. Knight also drove in his second run of the game.
Colby-Sawyer tacked on a run in the seventh on a RBI single from junior
Andy Lapple, which scored senior
Sean Gavin.
Becker closed the gap to 10-7 with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth, but could not get any closer. Natoli and Reilly knocked in the runs on a pair of groundouts.
Freshman
Jeff Dunn earned his first career win. He went seven innings. Freshman
Mike Bowse pitched the eighth and the ninth and surrendered just one walk.
Senior Mike Schoen took the loss after four innings of work.
Colby-Sawyer plays RPI on Wednesday at 4:00 pm at the Lake of Myrtle complex. Becker plays Dickinson at 3:30 pm on Wednesday at Chain of Lakes Park.
