Men's Soccer Advances to NAC Championship with Shootout Win

Box Score CASTINE, Maine - November 6, 2013 - The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team has advanced to the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) championship with a shootout victory at No. 2 seed Maine Maritime.

BOX SCORE

Colby-Sawyer and Maine Maritime played 110 scoreless minutes and needed a best of five penalty kick shootout to determine the winner.

Each side missed its first attempt, but the Chargers took a 1-0 lead after Rick Prindiville connected on his try and Nick Austin made a diving save against Evan Turmenne of Maine Maritime. The Mariners made the next three tries and Colby-Sawyer responded with two straight makes to knot the score at 3-3 with one shot remaining. Freshman Andrew Clothier stepped to the spot with a chance to send the Chargers to the NAC finals. He ripped a shot to the center of the goal and scored as the goalie dove to his left. The shootout clinching goal lifted Colby-Sawyer to a second straight upset in the NAC tournament.

The Chargers have reached a conference final for the first time since 2002. Colby-Sawyer will play at Thomas on Saturday. The Terriers, who were preseason favorites to win this year's title, came away with a 2-0 upset victory at top seed Castleton on Wednesday night.

Nick Austin made seven saves in the match, while Mariners keeper Jesse Perkins stopped five shots.
