Volleyball Splits on First Day of Beacons Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BOSTON, Mass. - October 12, 2013 - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of the Beacons Invitational hosted by UMass Boston. The Chargers fell to Babson 3-0 in the morning, but rebounded nicely with a 3-1 win over former Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Endicott. 

Colby-Sawyer's record goes to 14-7. The team will play Haverford at noon and tournament host UMass Boston at 6:00 p.m. tomorrow. 

BABSON 3, COLBY-SAWYER 0 - 25-19, 25-22, 25-7 - BOX SCORE

The Chargers struggled to find an offensive flow against the Beavers. Although the team was able to keep the first two sets close, Colby-Sawyer hit -.065 for the match. The Beavers received nine aces from the service line and forced the Chargers into 28 attacking errors. 

Emilee McBride led the team with seven kills, while Jackie Keating added six. Ally Le-Bruno collected 14 digs and Laura Smolinski had a match-high 21 assists. 

COLBY-SAWYER 3, ENDICOTT 1 - 25-15, 25-17, 18-25, 25-23 - BOX SCORE

Colby-Sawyer's offense came together in the afternoon match against the Gulls. The team hit .236 and benefited from 13 aces. 

The Chargers began the match with 17 kills and only one error in the first set. The second set was much of the same as Colby-Sawyer hit well, while holding the Endicott offense to six kills. 

Colby-Sawyer let the Gulls back in the match after dropping the third set. The Chargers committed 11 attack errors in the frame.

The Gulls battled to the end of the fourth set, but the Chargers were able to close the match with a 25-23 win behind 16 kills in the stanza. 

Stephanie Vecchio and Jackie Keating each had 14 kills in the match. Vecchio hit .406 and Keating added 11 digs for a double-double. Courtney O'Hara added 12 kills on .386 hitting, while Emilee McBride was the fourth Charger to reach double-figures with 11 kills.   

Laura Smolinski tallied a match best 49 assists, while Ally Le-Bruno and Julia Yee anchored the defense with 37 and 13 digs, respectively.
