GAME ONE BOX SCORE – Colby-Sawyer 9, New England College 2
The Chargers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second after manufacturing a pair of runs. Junior
Tyler Stotz (Amesbury, Mass.) reached on a single, stole second, moved to third on a fly-out and scored on a suicide squeeze by sophomore
Kyle Greenwood (Lyndonville, Vt.). Freshman
Alex Fredette (Dover, N.H.) scored the second run on an RBI single from junior
Sean Gavin (Keene, N.H.).
Colby-Sawyer tacked on a run in the third on an RBI single from sophomore
Jon Wylie (Middleboro, Mass.).
The teams traded a pair of runs in the fourth inning. New England College received an RBI single from freshman Christopher Smith (Raynham, Mass.), but the Chargers responded with a run in their half of the inning to take a 4-1 lead.
Colby-Sawyer broke the game open in the 5th, scoring four times. Stotz began with an RBI single and was followed by an RBI double from freshman
Rob Wallace (Tewksbury, Mass.) and a two-RBI single from Gavin.
The Pilgrims added an unearned run in the top of the sixth and Wallace tacked on a ninth run with an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning.
Sophomore
Kevin Keith (Quincy, Mass.) picked up his team leading third win of the season after tossing five innings. He gave up one run on five hits and struck out five. Freshman Brandon Quirk (Whitman, Mass.) took the loss for the Pilgrims.
GAME TWO BOX SCORE – New England College 2, Colby-Sawyer 1
The second game featured great pitching from both sides. However, the Chargers scored first on a wild pitch in the second inning by NEC's Pierce Byrd (Ft. Myers, Fla.).
Byrd settled in over the next four innings and surrendered two hits in that span. He worked six innings and gave up one run on four hits.
Colby-Sawyer's hurler
Ryan Gillan (Alton, N.H.) was equally good as he gave up two hits in the first four innings. The Pilgrims looked like they would get to Gillan in the fifth, but he was able to scatter three hits without letting anyone cross the plate.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the seventh, New England College's Francesco DiRe (Barrington, R.I.) reached first on an error by the shortstop. After a single moved DiRe to third, Tyler Perrin (Thetford Center, Vt.) knocked him in with a sacrifice fly to centerfield, to tie the game at 1-1.
Colby-Sawyer was unable to score in bottom half of the seventh and stranded a runner at second.
NEC again benefited from a Colby-Sawyer miscue in the top of the 8th when Christopher Smith (Raynham, Mass.) scored the eventual game-winning run on a pass ball.
DiRe earned the win with two shutout innings. Gillan took the loss for the Chargers, but threw eight innings and did not surrender an earned run.
