NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 19, 2012 – Castleton junior pitcher Tyler Erickson (Naugatuck, Conn.) threw two complete games and earned a pair of wins over Colby-Sawyer in Thursday's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East doubleheader. The Spartans won the first game 3-2 and followed with a 2-1 win in the second.

Castleton improves to 24-10 overall and remains atop the NEAC East standings with a 19-1 record. Colby-Sawyer falls to 17-20 overall and currently holds on to the fourth spot in the conference standings.

Colby-Sawyer hosts Plymouth on Monday for one nine inning game at 3:30 pm. Castleton travels to Thomas on Friday for a twin bill beginning at 2:00 pm.

GAME ONE BOX SCORE – Castleton 3, Colby-Sawyer 2

The Spartans opened the game with a pair of runs in the first. The league's leading hitter Ryan Zielinski (Schenectady, N.Y.) got on base with a double to right center and was knocked in on a Joe Borowski (Schenectady, N.Y.) two-run homer.

Colby-Sawyer was able to tie the game in the bottom half of the second on an RBI double by Jon Wylie (Middleboro, Mass.) and a run scoring single from Kyle Greenwood (Lyndonville, Vt.).

Castleton took the lead in the sixth on a run producing single by Borowski.

Tyler Erickson did the rest on the mound for the Spartans facing one over the minimum over the final five innings, which included six of his seven strikeouts. He earned his sixth win of the season.

Ryan Gillan (Alton, N.H.) took the loss after throwing six innings with three earned runs allowed.

GAME TWO BOX SCORE – Castleton 2, Colby-Sawyer 1

Jon Wylie produced the first run of game two in the bottom half of the second after he stole third and forced an errant throw from the catcher that allowed him to score easily.

Castleton gained a 2-1 advantage in the sixth, benefiting from an error and a sacrifice fly by Ryan Zielinski.

That would be all the scoring needed for Tyler Erickson, who threw his second straight complete game of the afternoon. He allowed four hits, no earned runs, and struck out five.

Colby-Sawyer hurler Brendan Harding (Medford, Mass.) was equally good in the second game for the Chargers, working 6 1/3 innings. He allowed just four hits and no earned runs.
