POULTNEY, Vt. – April 18, 2012 - Colby-Sawyer's Brittney Murphy scored nine goals and notched assists on six other markers to lead the Chargers past the Eagles 22-6 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East play on Wednesday afternoon. 

The win moves Colby-Sawyer (8-6 overall, 4-1 NAC) to within one of conference leader Castleton, while the loss pushes the Eagles (2-8 overall, 0-4 NAC) even closer to being eliminated from the playoff picture.

Colby-Sawyer peppered Eagles' goalkeeper Ginny Anderson with 41 shots on goal in the contest.  The score would have been even more lopsided had it not been for several phenomenal saves from the Eagles' keeper, some on point blank shots.  The Chargers converted on 54% of the team's shots, scoring 11 goals in each half.

Murphy opened the scoring on an unassisted effort to put the visitors on the board just one minute into the match.  The Chargers would score four more unanswered goals to take a commanding 5-0 lead with 22:15 still remaining in the half.

Johanna Douglas would break the run of Charger goals 45 seconds later when she netted her 34th goal of the year.  The Eagles would close the gap to 7-3 at 12:42 on another Douglas marker which came courtesy of a free position shot.  However, the visitors would outscore the Eagles 4-1 to close out the period and take an 11-4 lead into the break.

The Chargers stormed out of halftime by stringing together seven unanswered goals which effectively removed any hope of a GMC comeback.  In total, the visitors outscored the Eagles 11-2 in the second frame.

Leading the potent offense for the Chargers was Murphy, the NAC's point leader, with 15 total points. She recorded six assists in the game breaking her own single season record of 28 with 33 this year. Kate Rial was a real catalyst for Colby-Sawyer scoring four goals on the day.  Yet it was her effort in the draw circle and in the midfield which really helped spark her team.  The junior midfielder controlled a team-high six draws and picked up a game-high 10 ground balls.  Michelle Upham aided the Chargers' offense with three goals and an assist, while Sam Rober and Alyssia Janak rounded out the scorers with multiple tallies.

Green Mountain was led by Douglas who scored five-of-six Eagle goals.  The sophomore led both teams with seven draw controls and contributed a team-high seven ground balls.  Lara Baxter was the other Eagle to notch a goal in the loss as she scored an unassisted goal in the first half.  Bryanna Astor pitched in with five ground balls and two draw controls while managing to cause three turnovers.  Corinne Colpitts had a productive day in the face-off circle, winning five draw controls.

Adrienne Bender saved nine shots to pick up the win (8-6) before giving way to Jess Buckley in the second half.  Anderson (2-8) was stellar in net for the Eagles in the loss, stopping multiple close-in chances by the opposition.

Both teams will play important conference games this Saturday, April 21st.  The Eagles will host Thomas College at 2:00 p.m. in a must win scenario. The Chargers will welcome conference-leading Castleton to town in a battle for the top seed in the NAC playoff picture.
