Women's Lacrosse Scores 20 in Second Straight Game; Defeats Salem State 20-13

SALEM, Mass. - March 24, 2012 - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team reached 20 goals for the second straight day as they cruised past Salem State 20-13, in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. 

With the win Colby-Sawyer improves to 3-4, while the Lady Vikings drop their season opener and stand at 0-1.

Senior Brittney Murphy (Woburn, MA) and junior Ashley Reis (Peterborough, NH) led the way for the Chargers with five goals each, as well as, combing for five assists. Murphy moved into to third on Colby-Sawyer's all-time points list with 217 and is three points away from second place. Adrienne Bender (Wakefield, R.I.) earned the win after making 10 saves.

Colby Sawyer opened with a 3-0 advantage over Salem State with goals from Murphy, Reis and senior Molly Prudden (Andover, MA).  The Vikings answered right back and tied the game 3-3 on goals from junior Bridget Dullea (Peabody, MA), senior Kaitlyn Shidler (Peabody, MA) and sophomore Kelsey Russell (Arlington, MA). 

Murphy added four more goals in the half to help the Chargers build a 14-5 lead as Salem found the net for two more goals from Shidler and sophomore Liz Kosak (Milton, MA).

The Lady Vikings would not go quietly as they opened the scoring early in the second half as Dullea found Kosak for a goal 16 seconds into the frame. Dullea scored three more goals in the half and senior Catherine O'Neill (Hamilton, MA) added two to cut the lead to seven, but that was as close as Salem would get.

Dullea led Salem with seven points on four goals and three assists. Kosak added three goals, while Shidler had two goals and an assist and Russell scored a goal and had two assists.

The Lady Vikings will return to action on Tuesday night as the host Regis College in a non-conference game starting at 7:00 p.m. at Alumni Field. The Chargers will travel to Paxton, MA as they take on Anna Maria in a non-conference game Thursday night at 6:00 p.m.
