Strong Second Half Lifts Women's Basketball Past Green Mountain, 75-59

POULTNEY, Vt. – February 16, 2012 – Trailing 43-33 at the half, the Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team outscored Green Mountain 42-16 to earn a 75-59 road victory in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Thursday evening.

The Chargers improve to 18-6 overall and 14-3 in NAC play. Green Mountain falls to 2-20 overall and is now 0-17 in the conference.

Colby-Sawyer received 18 points from sophomore Ashley Fruzzetti (Raynham, Mass.) and junior Taylor DeSanty (North Adams, Mass.). Freshman Kelsey Cahill (Cumberland, R.I.) recorded a double-double of 13 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Junior Cailin Bullett (Millbury, Mass.) was the fourth Charger to reach double-figures with 11. She added seven assists.

Green Mountain junior Chelsea Paul (Northville, N.Y) surpassed 1,000 career points after pouring in 22 in the first half. She finished the game with 25 and 10 rebounds. Senior Molly Hopper (Gouverneur, N.Y.) also recorded a double-double of 13 points and a team best 12 rebounds.

The Eagles led the entire first frame, and by as much as 12, behind stellar shooting from beyond the arc. Fruzzetti led the Chargers with nine first half points. Green Mountain led 43-33 at the break.

The Chargers opened the second half on a 12-0 run to take their first lead of the game at 45-43. After the team's traded buckets, Colby-Sawyer built a nine point lead midway through the half. The Chargers pushed its advantage to 11 with 3:20 left to go and held off the Eagles down the stretch.

Colby-Sawyer wraps up the regular season on Saturday at home against Castleton. Tip time for senior day is 1:00 pm. Green Mountain plays its regular season finale at New England College on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
