WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PUTS UP FIGHT AGAINST LASERS

Newton, MA – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team played against the Lasell Lasers on Tuesday evening in GNAC Conference play. 

Rapid Recap: 

  • Makenna Grillone (Walpole, NH) and Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, NH) each scored a basket to put the Chargers up 4-2. Taylor Fellows (Croydon, NH) made a layup, followed by a three from Tanner Drury (Bethel, VT) to put the Chargers up by four. Lauren MacDonald (Tilton, NH) and Grillone each made layups to put the Chargers up 15-9 after the first quarter. 

  • Mitchell scored a tip-in early in the second quarter. Drury made her second three of the game. Mitchell made a layup and MacDonald drained a three. With less than four minutes to go in the half, Mitchell, Catherine Chick (Glen, NH), and Grillone all scored baskets. The Lasers led 36-32 at the half. 

  • Emily Leonard (Chester, NH) and Grillone scored back-to-back threes to help the Chargers to a strong start to the second half. The Lasers scored the next five points, but MacDonald would then score a layup for the Chargers. Drury and Leonard both scored threes. With 1:06 left in the quarter, MacDonald made a layup. The Lasers led 53-49 with a quarter to go. 

  • MacDonald made two layups in the beginning of the fourth quarter. With 4:01 left in the game, Drury drained a three. Mitchell scored two tip-ins as the Chargers trailed by five with 51 seconds to go. The Lasers won the match 71-66 

Inside the Numbers: 

  • MacDonald led the scoring for the Chargers with 16 points. 

  • Mitchell recorded a double-double on Tuesday evening (13 points and 13 rebounds). 

  • Drury ended the game on 13 points. 

  • Blaize Mack led the scoring for the Lasers with 19 points. 

  • The Chargers recorded 42 rebounds. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers will play their final game of the regular season on Saturday at the Hogan Sports Center at 1pm against Albertus Magnus.
