Men's Soccer Defeated by Green Mountain, 2-0

BOX SCORE

POULTNEY, Vt. - September 24, 2011 -
The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team suffered its first North Atlantic Conference (NAC) loss to Green Mountain, 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Chargers fall to 2-4-1 overall and 0-1-1 in NAC play. Colby-Sawyer plays at Middlebury on Sunday at 4:00 pm. Green Mountain is now 1-5-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference, and the Eagles are off until Saturday October 1st when they travel to Castleton State College to face the Spartans at 1:00pm.

Junior Chris Gaskin put the Eagles in front in the 11th minute when he fired a ball past Chargers keeper Nick Austin from twenty-two yards out on the right side. It was Gaskin's first goal on the season, and it came as the Eagles took advantage on a defense stretching back out after a corner kick attempt.

The score remained 1-0 throughout the remainder of the first half, despite both teams creating quality chances.

The second half began the way the first half ended, until the 61st minute when Charly Thevenau took a well placed ball from Matt Porter at the edge of the box and lashed a ball past Austin to put the Eagles in front 2-0. Having built a two goal lead, the Eagles settled in and forced Colby-Sawyer to chase the game, ultimately holding in at the final horn.

Nick Austin had four saves in the loss for the Chargers. Nate Kishbaugh picked up the victory in the net for the Eagles collecting five saves and his first clean sheet of the year.
