NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 26, 2011 – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team swept a double-header with Nichols, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference on Wednesday. The Chargers won game one 5-0 and followed with a 4-0 victory in game two.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 14-19 overall and 8-14 in conference play. Nichols falls to 9-21 overall and 4-14 in the TCCC.
Game 1 – CSC 5, Nichols 0
The Chargers took advantage of an error by the Nichols second baseman in the bottom of the first as the infield was pulled in. Junior
Justin Martin (Lebanon, N.H.), who was up with runners on second and third, hit the ball sharply at senior Josh Clark (Brunswick, Maine), but he couldn't play it cleanly and resulted in the games first run. Junior
Greg Mehuron (Waitsfield, Vt.) then hit an RBI groundout to first, which scored the second run.
After Nichols threatened in the top half of the fourth with back to back base hits, Colby-Sawyer senior pitcher
Mike Bertuccio (Millstone Township, N.J.) was able to get two ground ball outs to retire the side.
The Chargers tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly from freshman
Andy Lapple (Newtown, Conn.) and an RBI single from senior
Brandon McFadden (Dummerston, Vt.).
Lapple added an RBI single in the fifth to give Colby-Sawyer a 5-0 lead. Freshman pitcher
Alex Drost (West Windsor, Vt.) came on in relief to set down the final six Bison, including three via the strikeout.
Bertuccio earned the victory for Colby-Sawyer tossing five innings of three-hit ball. Nichols freshman pitcher Tyler Shute (Mashpee, Mass.) took the loss after giving up five runs in five innings.
Game 2 – CSC 4, Nichols 0
Colby-Sawyer sophomore
Sean Gavin (Keene, N.H.) led off the bottom half of the first with a triple as the Nichols outfield had trouble tracking the ball in the dense fog. Sophomore
Tyler Stotz (Amesbury, Mass.) hit a sacrifice fly to center to drive in the games first run.

Cameron Knight (Cambridge, Mass.) gave the Chargers a 2-0 lead in the second on an RBI single to left field scoring
Greg Mehuron.
The Chargers added two runs in the fourth as Nichols committed two errors in the frame.
Junior
Ryan Gillan (Alton, N.H.) gave up three hits and struck out three in five innings to win his second game of the season. Freshman
Kevin Keith (Quincy, Mass.) came out of the bullpen for the final two innings and surrendered one hit. Freshman Chris Bruno (Darien, Conn.) took the loss for Nichols after throwing 1 and 1/3 innings and giving up two runs.
Colby-Sawyer plays at non-conference opponent Keene State on Wednesday for one game beginning at 3:30 pm. Nichols plays a TCCC double-header at Eastern Nazarene beginning at 2:00pm on Wednesday.
