HENNIKER, N.H. - April 10, 2011 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team was defeated by New England College 1-0 in game one and 2-1 in game two of The Commonwealth Coast Conference twin bill Sunday afternoon.

With the wins the Pilgrims improve to 5-12 overall and 2-8 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC). The losses drop the Chargers to 6-14 overall and 1-9 in the TCCC.
In game one NEC's Pierce Byrd (Ft. Myers, Fla.) would allow just two hits in six innings of work and teammate Jon Nelson (Bedford, N.H.) would come in to pick up his first save of the season putting down the three straight batters in the seventh inning.
The lone run of the game would come in the home half of the fourth inning as Chris Gagne (Rochester, N.H) would lead off the inning getting hit by a pitch and advance to second on a stolen base. Gagne would then get to third on a Brandon Adorno (Ft. Myers, Fla.) fly out and come around to score on a sacrifice fly by PJ Crowley (Pawcatuck, Conn.).
Colby-Sawyer's
Greg Mehuron (Waitsfield, Vt.) would record the only extra base hit of the game with a double in the second inning. On the mound for Colby-Sawyer was
Mike Bertuccio (Millstone Township, N.J.) who allowed just one run on three hits.
In game two NEC would get back-to-back homeruns by PJ Crowley and Lucas Burgess (Bath, N.H. ) in the sixth inning leading the Pilgrims past the Chargers 2-1.
Colby-Sawyer would grab the in the first inning as
Sean Gavin (Keene, N.H.) would open the game with a walk, advance to second as
Tyler Stotz (Amesbury, Mass.) was hit by a pitch and score on a
Justin Martin ground ball double-play.
The Pilgrims would load the bases in the fourth but the Chargers would catch Crowley in a run down between third and home and force Gerry Allen (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) into a double play keeping NEC off the board.
The Chargers continue TCCC play on Monday with a doubleheader against Gordon beginning at 2:00 pm. The games will be played in Henniker, N.H. at New England College.
