BOX SCORE

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 1, 2011 – The University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team earned a 4-1 road win against Colby-Sawyer in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Saturday afternoon.

UMF improves to 4-4 overall and is 2-1 in NAC competition. Colby-Sawyer dips to 2-7-1 overall and 0-2-1 in conference play.

Colby-Sawyer jumped out to an early 1-0 lead seven minutes into the contest on a rain soaked Kelsey Field. Freshman Clay Allen (Massena, N.Y.) scored his team leading third goal of the season off a nice feed from freshman Alex Ortega (Milton, Vt.).

The Beavers evened the game at 1-1 at the 16 minute mark when junior Jordan Hale (Falmouth, Maine) found the back of the net with his sixth tally of the season. Sophomore Joc Caldwell (Grafton, Mass) was credited with the assist.
UMF took the advantage in the 25th minute on a goal by junior Mike Kelly (Norton, Mass.).

The Beavers added one more before the half after senior Sean Raph (Waterville, Maine) ripped a shot past the Colby-Sawyer keeper. UMF led 3-1 at the break.

With the field conditions worsening, neither team could muster much offense in the second half.

Nevertheless, UMF found away to put one more on the board en route to the 4-1 victory. Freshman Matt Potter (Waterville, Maine) connected for his first collegiate goal.

Sophomore Tennessee Peters (Scarborough, Maine) allowed one goal and turned away four shots in the win. Senior Will Berry (Berlin, Vt.) had five saves and allowed three goals in the first half, while freshman Nick Austin (Westerly, R.I.) allowed one goal and made one save in the second half.

Colby-Sawyer hosts Thomas on Sunday at 1:00pm, while UMF travels down Route 89 to play New England College at noon.
