Women's Basketball Cruises to 95-62 Victory at Eastern Nazarene

QUINCY, Mass. - January 27, 2011 - The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team cruised to a 95-62 victory at Eastern Nazarene in The Commonwealth Coast Conference on Thursday evening. The 95 points is the highest total for the Chargers since the team scored 97 on February 2, 2003 against the University of New England.

The Chargers move to 9-8 overall and 5-1 in the conference. The Lions fall to 3-15 overall and 1-5 in TCCC play.

The first half was tight early on, seeing the Lady Lions go on a 6-0 run to take a 19-17 lead, their first since 2-0, forcing Chargers coach George Martin to take a timeout. The Chargers came out strong out of the time out having a plus 12 advantage the rest of the half and going into half with a 47-37 lead.

The Chargers were led by a pair sophomore guard's in the first half, Cailin Bullet and Taylor DeSanty, who each reached double digits in the opening period. Sophomore point guard Ace Carradine did her best to keep the Lady Lions in the ball game by having a team high 12 first half points.

The Chargers late surge turned into second half momentum as they stretched their lead throughout the half. Much of Colby Sawyer's damage came from the charity stripe where they were 25-32 on the game.

DeSanty led all scorers with 21 points. Bullet finished with 16 on the game and senior guard Katelyn Stravinsky tacked on 17 of here own. The Lady Lion's leading scorer was Carradine, who had 14 on the night. Senior Ja'na Jenking, who scored 14, and freshman Dianna Bonds, 10 points, joined Carradine as the Lady Lions in double-figures.

Colby-Sawyer returns to the court on Saturday with a home contest against Roger Williams at 3:00 pm.
