Chargers Tripped Up At Home By Saints

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team fell at home Saturday afternoon 64-47 to Emmanuel College. 

Rapid Recap:
  • First-year Lauren MacDonald (Tilton, N.H.) would open the scoring for the Chargers by driving into the paint and making the layup. The Saints would respond with back-to-back layups to take an early 4-2 lead. Junior Makenna Grillone (Walpole, N.H.) would drive into the paint and make the layup to tie the score at 6-6 with 5:55 remaining. The teams would continue to battle and knock down shots as the Chargers would take a 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. 
  • The Saints would score first to open the second quarter, but sophomore Catherine Chick (Glen, N.H.) would drive into the paint and make the layup to keep the Chargers ahead 17-15. The Saints would respond and go on a 15-4 run to take a 30-21 lead with 2:08 remaining. Chick would knock down a three-pointer to trim the Saints lead as the visitors would head into halftime leading 34-25. 
  • The Saints would score first in the third quarter to extend their lead and continued to knock down shots as they went on a 10-0 run, but Chick would make a layup to halt the run as the Chargers trailed 44-27 with 5:17 left in the quarter. First-year Emma Greenan (Saint Johnsbury, Vt.)  would chip in a layup to trim the lead, but the Saints quickly responded with a free throw to keep the lead. The teams would continue to trade buckets as the Saints would take the 53-32 lead at the end of the third quarter. 
  • The Saints would open the final quarter of action by knocking down a layup, but the Chargers responded with a free throw by Chick and a three-pointer by Grillone to trim the Saints lead to 55-36. The teams would continue to trade buckets, but the Chargers were unable to complete the comeback as the Saints would take the 64-47 win. 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Grillone paced the Chargers with 13 points (4-9 FG, 1-4 3PT, 4-4 FT) and two rebounds while Chick tallied 10 points (3-3 FG, 1-1 3PT, 3-4 FT)) and six rebounds. MacDonald recorded six points (3-13 FG), 14 rebounds, and two steals for the Chargers. 
  • Desiree Robinson recorded 14 points (7-16 FG, 0-2 FT), seven rebounds, and three steals for the Saints. Paris Atuahene chipped in 14 points (7-20 FG, 0-5 3PT), nine steals, and five assists while Kaitlyn Bartash added nine points (4-6 FG, 1-2 FT), six rebounds, and one steal. 
  • The Chargers shot 77.8% from the free throw and tallied 40 rebounds while the Saints shot 40% from the free throw and 39.7& from the field.

The Chargers return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Weston, Massachusetts to take on the Regis College Pride with a 5:00 PM tip-off.
