Chargers Fall Short on the Road

WESTON, MASSACHUSETTS - The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team fell on the road Tuesday evening to the Regis College Pride, 87-64. 

Rapid Recap:
  • First-year Lauren MacDonald (Tilton, N.H.) would open the scoring Tuesday night by driving into the paint and knocking down a layup. The Pride would respond with a three-pointer to keep the scoring close early in the opening half. The teams would continue to battle, trading buckets throughout the quarter with the Pride taking a 13-6  lead with 4:44 remaining. First-year Tanner Drury (Bethel, Vt.) would knock down a jumper to trim the lead as the Chargers trailed 16-10. The Pride responded and would outscore the Chargers 10-2  to take a 26-12 lead at the end of the quarter. 
  • The Pride would score first in the second quarter by making a layup, but first-year Sierra Derby (Richford, Vt.) would respond with a layup. The Pride would go on a 13-2 run late in the quarter, but sophomore Catherine Chick (Glen, N.H.) would make a free throw in the final seconds of the quarter as the Pride would take a 41-17 lead heading into halftime. 
  • Chick would open the third quarter by making a pair of free throws, followed by a layup to get the Chargers on the board and senior Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine) would drive into the paint for layup to trim the Pride's lead to 41-23 with 7:43 remaining. The teams would continue to trade buckets late in the quarter, but the Pride would take the 63-43 lead at the end of the third quarter. 
  • Regis would open the final quarter of action by knocking down a three-pointer, but Chick would drive into the paint for back-to-back layups to trim the Pride's lead. The teams would continue to trade buckets as junior Makenna Grillone (Walpole, N.H.) would drive into the paint and make a layup, but Regis would continue to knock down shots as they would come away with the 87-64 win. 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Chick led the scoring for the Chargers with 22 points (7-14 FG, 8-10 FT) and nine rebounds while MacDonald tallied 10 points (5-11 FG), six rebounds, and two blocks. 
  • Madi Zancan paced the Pride with 26 points (12-22 FG, 2-2 FT), 12 rebounds, and six assists while Courtney Doherty recorded 23 points (9-15 FG, 4-6 3PT, 1-2 FT), five rebounds, and two steals. 
Up Next:
The Chargers will be back in action on Saturday for their final regular season game, as the University of Saint Joseph's (Conn.) travels to New London for a 1:00 PM start.
