BOX SCORE
NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 8, 2010 – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team fell to intrastate foe Plymouth State, 4-3 on a brisk and windy afternoon at Kelsey Field.
Plymouth State improves to 2-14 overall, while the Chargers pull even at 10-10.
The Chargers took a 2-0 advantage in their first at-bat when senior
Chris Hartery (Billerica, Mass.) connected on his fourth homerun of the season. He drove in junior
Matt Corvo (Newtown, Pa.) who led off the inning with a walk. Hartery moved into sixth place on the Colby-Sawyer all-time list for career homeruns with 12.
Colby-Sawyer increased their lead in the home half of the fourth on a RBI ground out by freshman
Cameron Knight (Cambridge, Mass.).
The Panthers rallied in the top of the fifth inning by scoring twice. Freshman Steve Beard (Middleton, Mass.) led off with a walk and was knocked in on a double by sophomore Joe Eramo (Shirley, Mass.). After Eramo reached third on a fly out, junior Matt Koban (Bradford, N.H.) successfully completed a squeeze play to knock in Plymouth State's second run.
Plymouth State's Brendan Cosgrove (Merrimack, N.H.) led off in the top of the eighth with a walk. A balk sent him to second and then he advanced to third on a groundout. With two outs, a fastball got away from the Colby-Sawyer catcher and Cosgrove was able to scamper to home plate with the go ahead run.
Panthers' hurler Bryant Lausberg (Somersworth, N.H.) shut down the Chargers in the bottom of the eighth and ninth to earn a complete game victory.
The Chargers will host two tough TCCC opponents this weekend when they welcome Curry to Kelsey Field on Saturday and Western New England on Sunday. Plymouth State plays a double-header at Rhode Island College on Saturday.
