First Half Offense Leads Chargers Past Amcats

NEW LONDON, NH - April 5, 2010 - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team defeated the Anna Maria Amcats 18-2 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Monday. The win moves the Chargers to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in TCCC play.

BOX SCORE

The Chargers scored early and often in the first half of play. Colby-Sawyer scored 42 seconds into the first half when Brittney Murphy scored her 23rd goal of the season on a pass from Laurel Bauer. The Amcats responded 24 seconds later when Katie Schebel (So., Ludlow, Mass.) scored her 30th goal of the season on a free position attempt. However, the Chargers quickly regained the lead when Ashley Reis scored on a free position ball. Colby-Sawyer would then go on to score the next 14 goals. Schebel would add her 31st of the year for the Amcats in the second half, but consistent ball control from the Charger kept the action in the Amcats half of the field for the majority of the second half. The Chargers would add two late goals and go on for the 18-2 win.

Eleven different players scored for the Chargers. Murphy had four goals and two assists. Elaina Kennedy found the net three times and Ashley Reis had two goals and an assist. Ekta Sampson made five saves on seven attempts.

For the Amcats, Katie Schebel scored twice, both on free position attempts and goalie Lourdes Pena (Fr., Lawrence, Mass) made 19 saves.

The Chargers return to action on Wednesday April 7 when they travel to Curry College. First draw is set for 6:30pm.
