BOX SCORE

NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 21, 2010 – Colby-Sawyer sophomore Brittney Murphy (Woburn, Mass.) scored with three seconds remaining in the game to lift the Chargers past New England College, 15-14 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's lacrosse action.

The win improves Colby-Sawyer's record to 4-10 overall and 3-6 in the TCCC. New England College drops to 7-9 overall and 4-6 in the conference.

Colby-Sawyer got on the board first with a goal from senior Elaina Kennedy (Sunderland, Mass.). The Pilgrims responded with three straight tallies from freshman Miranda Tinsman (Belgrade, Maine). The teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the first half, but Colby-Sawyer's Samantha Draper (Duxbury, Mass.) scored as time expired to give the Chargers an 8-7 lead.

NEC quickly tied the score seconds into the second half on an unassisted goal from sophomore Amanda Naime (York, Maine). Colby-Sawyer responded and took their biggest lead of the contest (11-8) with 27 minutes left when Lyndsay French (Ipswich, Mass.) found the back of the net.

The Pilgrims kept fighting back and tied the game at 12-12 on a tally by senior Lauren Bickford (Lebanon, Maine). With the Chargers leading 14-13 with under a minute remaining, NEC knotted the score on a goal from junior Emily Kuchta (Norwalk, Conn.).

After a mad scramble in front of the Colby-Sawyer net, the Chargers gained control of the ball and began to pass the ball up the field. The ball ended up in Murphy's stick and she shot it passed NEC goalie Alexandra DiRico (Limerick, Pa.), with three seconds left on the clock.

DiRico made 19 saves in the loss, while freshman Ekta Sampson (Hyde Park, Vt.) made nine saves en route to the victory.

Murphy led all players with six goals. Draper and freshman Laurel Bauer (Bradford, N.H.) added three goals apiece for the Chargers.

Naime and Tinsman finished the contest with four goals each for New England College. Kuchta added two tallies.
