Keene State Defeats Colby-Sawyer

KEENE, N.H. - April 19, 2010 -
The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team fell to Keene State, 21-4 in non league action on Monday afternoon. The Chargers will resume The Commonwealth Coast Conference play with a home contest versus New England College on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.

Senior Elaina Kennedy led the Chargers with two scores, while junior Samantha Draper and sophomore Brittney Murphy each added a goal.

Keene State which extends its winning streak to seven games (one shy of the school record), improves to 9-3. Colby-Sawyer (3-10) suffered its fourth straight loss.

The Owls scored the last seven goals of the first half to take an 11-3 lead and never looked back.

Junior Jill Kirk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) scored a season high five goals to go with three assists while junior Jamie Albert netted a pair.

Sawyer broke her game assists record with 49 seconds to play in the game when she set up a goal by sophomore Adrienne Itri (Braintree, Mass.). “My attackers were making good cuts and getting open,” said Sawyer. “My teammates made it easy for me.”

Sophomore Alyssa Marinaccio (Narragansett, R.I.) and freshman Christine Collins (Cheshire, Conn.) each played a half in goal for KSC. Marinaccio made five saves while Collins stopped three shots.

Freshman Ekta Sampson (Hyde Park, Vt.) had a busy day in goal for CSC, making 15 saves.
