BOX SCORE
NASHUA, N.H. - March 24, 2010 - Senior
Chris Hartery (Billerica, Mass.) connected for a three-run homer with two out in the top of the ninth inning to propel Colby-Sawyer past host Daniel Webster, 7-5 in an intrastate baseball matchup Wednesday at Harvey Woods Field.
Hartery's blast, his first of the season, allowed the Chargers (5-5) to escape after Daniel Webster (3-7) had held leads of 3-0 and 5-4.
Charger pitcher
Ryan Gillan (Alton, N.H.) earned the win (1-1), going eight-plus innings allowing three earned runs on 10 hits.
Senior
Chris Smith (Lisbon, N.H.) came on in the ninth to quell a late Eagle rally to earn his first save.
Kory Kiro (Goffstown, N.H.) took the loss (1-1) in relief of starter David Wesson (Pelham, N.H.)
The Eagles loaded the bases with none out in the bottom of the ninth on as Chris Mckenzie (Burlington, Mass.) singled, Zach Cantor (Windham, Maine) walked and Elliot Kilgore (Milford, N.H.) singled.
But Smith induced two straight fielder's choices back to the mound getting force plays at home and added a strikeout to preserve the victory.
DWC built a 2-0 in the second with a Mckenize RBI double and Kilgore RBI single and made it 3-0 in the third as Darrik Marstaller (Spofford, N.H.) came home on an Adam Southwell (Marlborough, N.H.) ground out.
The Chargers answered with four unearned runs in the top of the seventh. After two singles,
Tyler Stotz (Amesbury, Mass.) reached on a two-out error to score
Ryan Farris (Nashua, N.H.) and load the bases.
Greg Mehuron (Waitsfield, Vt.) followed with a two-run double to tie it at 3-3.
Justin Martin (Claremont, N.H.) then followed with a RBI single to score Mehuron for a 4-3 lead.
The Eagles retook the lead in the bottom of the seventh as Cantor led off with a solo shot, his third of the season, and Josh Chasse (Haverhill, Mass.) later came home on a two-out Marstaller single.
Marstaller, Mckenzie and Kilgore would all finish with three hits for Daniel Webster, while Martin added three hits for Colby-Sawyer.
Stotz, Hartery and
Cameron Knight finished with two hits each for the Chargers.
The Eagles return to action next Tuesday when they host Clark University at 3:00 p.m.
