Women's Basketball Earns 66-54 Victory Over Eastern Nazarene

NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 28, 2010 – Senior Terri Duffy (Marshfield, Mass.) recorded her sixth straight double-double to lift Colby-Sawyer past Eastern Nazarene, 66-54 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference on Thursday evening. The Chargers improve to 7-11 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while the Lions dip to 7-11 overall and 1-5 in the TCCC. 

Colby-Sawyer held big advantages over Eastern Nazarene in rebounds (64-38) and points in the paint (42-18), which results in the Chargers second straight victory. The Chargers held a 33-25 lead at the break thanks to a 24-14 advantage in the paint and a 12-7 edge in points off turnovers. Senior Amy Hebert (Keene, N.H.) scored all nine of her points in the first half to lead the Chargers. 

Freshman Alexis Malloy (Greenbelt, Md.) kept the Lions within striking distance with 11 first half points on 4-5 shooting. She added seven boards in the first frame. 

Colby-Sawyer, now 6-0 when leading at halftime, built their lead to as much as 16 early in the second half and sustained it for most of the session. Eastern Nazarene roared back with under a minute to play to cut the lead to six, but Colby-Sawyer made six straight free throws to seal the victory. 

Duffy finished with teams highs of 15 points and 16 rebounds before fouling out to lead Colby-Sawyer. Sophomore Maggie Rossi (Fairhaven, Mass.) tallied 11 points, a career-high eight rebounds, and five assists. Freshman Sammi Lehr (Cohasset, N.H.) contributed six points and nine rebounds in 15 minutes before fouling out. 

Malloy had a monster game for Eastern Nazarene with a game-high 25 points on 9-13 shooting and grabbed 15 rebounds. Senior Christine Tucker (Oakland, Calif.) and freshman Raven Coates (Jersey City, N.J.) each added 10 points. 

The Chargers travel to Roger Williams on Saturday, January 30 for a 1:00 pm tip against the Hawks. Eastern Nazarene will play at Anna Maria at 1:00 pm also on Saturday.
