Colby-Sawyer Finishes TCCC Action with 18-4 Win over Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. – April 18, 2009 - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team snapped a nine-game losing streak with an 18-4 The Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over Nichols at Vendetti Field Saturday afternoon. The Chargers improve to 3-9 overall and 2-7 in TCCC games. The Bison fall to 3-8 overall and 0-7 in TCCC action.

Colby-Sawyer received four goals from sophomore Hannah Cullen (Penacook, N.H.) and five points from freshman Liz Allen (Holden, Mass.), who netted three goals to go with two assists. Samantha Draper (Duxbury, Mass.) added a pair of goals, and Laura Strelis (Arlington, Mass.) scored a goal and notched two assists.

Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.), Brittany Tremont (Guilford, Conn.), Arianna Perotti (No. Scituate, R.I.) and Annie Chen (Framingham, Mass.) all scored for the Bison.

The Chargers took a 2-0 lead before Forand brought the Bison within one less than five minutes into the game. Colby-Sawyer notched four-straight after that, including back-to-back tallies from Cullen. Chen netted one for Nichols at 13:42 to make the score 6-2 in favor of the visitors, but four more from the Chargers, including three free-position tallies, gave Colby-Sawyer a 10-2 cushion. The teams traded goals before halftime for an 11-3 scoreboard display at the half.

Cullen struck twice as the second half opened, and Allicia Murphy (No. Bennington, Vt.) added a free-position marker for a 14-3 advantage before Nichols' Emily Yourie (Ellington, Conn.) fed Perotti for a breakaway goal. Murphy moved into sixth all-time on the career points and career goals list with 148 and 119, respectively.

The Chargers closed the game with four-straight tallies, including the first career marker for freshman Sam Rober (Bedford, Mass.).

Alicia Foss (Greensboro, Vt.) made four saves for the Chargers before giving way to Ali Herrera (Redding, Conn.) for the final 5:57. Mary Michaud (Agawam, Mass.) took the loss with 20 saves.

Colby-Sawyer held a 19-16 groundball advantage and maintained a 17-7 lead in draw controls, led by four from Allen. The Chargers hit 7 of 20 free position shots in the game.

Colby-Sawyer is finished with conference play, and hosts Castleton State Tuesday at 4 p.m.
