NEW LONDON, N.H. – December 5, 2009 – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team was defeated by perennial national powerhouse Tufts University, 74-48 on Saturday afternoon. The Jumbos went 10-22 from three-point land en route to their fifth straight victory. The Chargers suffered their third straight loss falling to 2-4 on the season.
The game was close for the first 13 minutes of the game before Tufts pulled away and never looked back. Ahead 19-9, the Jumbos finished the half on a 21-7 run including 11 points from junior Colleen Hart (Needham, Mass.) in that stretch. Hart scored 17 of her 20 points in the first 20 minutes, making 5-9 three pointers.
The second half was played relatively evenly as the Jumbos outscored Colby-Sawyer 34-32. The Jumbos attempted only four treys, but sophomore Tiffany Kornegay (Carver, Mass.) took over the offense pouring in 14 of her 18 points in the half. The Chargers had a strong second half from freshman
Cailin Bullett (Millbury, Mass.) who scored 13 of her 17 on 5-7 shooting.
Senior Julia Baily (Farmington, Conn.) recorded a double-double for Tufts with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

The Chargers return will finish a three-game home-stand on Tuesday with a 6:00pm matchup with Castleton State. Tufts will play at Wheaton on Monday with a 7:00pm tip time.
