CHARGERS FALL TO RAIDERS AFTER STRONG COMEBACKS

NASHUA, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team traveled to Nashua to take on the Rivier Raiders for a doubleheader that would be split into two seperate days after game one would last 13 innings and push the risk of playing without sunlight. 

Rapid Recap Game 1: 
  • The Chargers would go ahead and put themselves on the board first in the second inning as Devin Montalvo (Coram, N.Y.) would single to right field bringing home Noah Staffier (Beverly, Mass.). The Raiders would go ahead and take the lead in the bottom of the third thanks to Normand, who singled to right center bringing in Hsu, and Martinez. 
  • The Chargers would come back to tie the game at 2 in the fourth inning, as Noah Staffier would steal second, and Sean Roeger (Salem, N.H.) would steal home on the throw down to second base.
  • The fifth and sixth innings would see the Raiders jump out to a 5-2 lead, with Martinez coming around to score again thanks to Innerfiel. They would score more off a Reis double, where he would come to score the next at bat.
  • The Chargers would fight their way back into this one with a base clearing double from Evan Dennis (East Ryegate, VT.) who tied the game at 5 with one swing of the bat giving him three runs batted in. 
  • The game would be held at a stalemate for the next six innings until the Raiders scored the game winning run in the 13th inning. 
On the Mound:
  • Zach Rogers (Mashpee, Mass.) would get the start for the Chargers, making him the new program leader in career starts. He would pitch 6.0 innings, striking out seven while walking three and giving up seven hits, and four earned runs. Justin Powers (Peabody, Mass.) would follow Rogers and pitch 1.0 innings, giving up no hits, no runs, while striking out one. Jack Mullen (Norfolk, Mass.) would finish out the game, going 5.1 innings, while striking out a career high 12 out of 21 batters faced while walking two.
At the Plate: 
  • Evan Dennis would lead the team at the plate as he drove in three runs that tied the game in a one-for-five day, with a double. Noah Staffier, and Colin Synder (Haverhill, Mass.) would both go two-for-six. Devin Montalvo would finish one-for-six, with a run batted in.
Rapid Recap Game 2:
  • The Raiders would jump out to an 8-0 lead through the first five innings of the game that put the Chargers backs against the walls. The Chargers would end up getting on the board in the 7th inning, as things kicked off with a Mike McLeer (Saco, Maine) infield single. McLeer would steal second, Dylan Watson (Byfield, Mass.), Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.), and Evan Dennis would get a free base to bring in McLeer for the Chargers first run.
  • The Chargers wouldn't stop there as they piled it on in the eighth inning as Watson would single to bring in McLeer, and Dennis would double to bring in Watson and O'Brien. The Chargers would complete the 8-0 comeback in the ninth as Brady Holmes (West Yarmouth, Mass.) would bring home Nick Johnson (Manchester, N.J.). That would be followed by a Watson double that scored both Janai Cruz (Manchester, N.H.) and Holmes. 
  • The Raiders would secure the win in the bottom of the ninth after a very strong Chargers comeback.
On the Mound:
  • Will Carpenter (Medfield, Mass.) would get the start and go 2.0 innings, giving up five runs off four hits, while striking out three batters. Mike Hogan (Piermont, N.H.) would follow, pitching 3.0 innings only allowing three runs on three hits while striking out four batters. Connor St. Gelais (Tyngsboro, Mass.) would come in to pitch 1.0 innings, while giving up no hits, no runs, and striking out one. Brady Young (Stratham, N.H.) would come in next, pitching 2.0 innings, giving up just one hit and striking out one. Justin Powers would close out the game pitching 0.2 innings, giving up two hits and a run while striking out one. 
At the Plate: 
  • Dylan Watson would lead the Chargers in this game as he would drive in three runs in a two-for-four day with one being a double. Evan Dennis would also drive home three runs in a one-for-three day. Mike McLeer would go one-for-three and score two runs, while Brady Holmes would go one-for-one and drive in a run himself.

The Chargers secured their spot in the GNAC playoffs as they will head into pod play with things kicking off against Johnson & Wales University on Friday, May 2nd at 12PM.
