NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team added a third game against the Pilgrims for Wednesday afternoon that would count as a non-conference game trying to get a game on the schedule thanks to the Spring weather.
Rapid Recap:
- The Pilgrims would end the Chargers streak of striking first in games as they were the ones that crossed the plate in the second inning. Spigel would hit a double that would bring home teammates, Winship and Becker to give the Pilgrims an early 2-0 lead. The Chargers would storm back early themselves in the bottom of the second, as Jesse Chaves (Taunton, Mass.) would single to bring home Sean Roeger (Salem, N.H.). Brady Holmes (West Yarmouth, Mass.) would drive in Chaves on another single to right field tying the game at 2.
- The Chargers would go on to score four unanswered runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 6-2 lead. Roeger would help bring home Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.) thanks to an error. O'Brien would come up in the fourth and draw a bases loaded walk to bring home Colin Snyder (Haverhill, Mass.) before Bailey Camacho (Cumberland, R.I.) would drive in two runs on a single to left field.
- The Pilgrims would work to make it 6-4 after the fifth inning before Roeger would add some insurance in the sixth inning that brought home Hunter Morse (Sunapee, N.H.)
On the Mound:
- Colin Burchard (Upton, Mass.) would get the start for the Chargers, where he pitched 3.0 innings, only giving up one earned run and striking out four. Ryan Kane (Franklin, Mass.) would follow and pitch 1.2 innings, giving up two runs while striking out two himself. Kenneth Spratt (Wantagh, N.Y.) would relieve Kane and pitch 0.1 innings. Nick Fenuccio (Worcester, Mass.) would close out the last 2.0 innings giving up three hits, and striking out two while picking up the save for the Chargers.
At the Plate:
- Camacho would lead the way on a one-for-two day that would see two runs come across to score thanks to his single. Chaves would also drive in a run in a one-for-four effort while Brady Holmes added a one-for-one day with a run batted in himself.
