CHARGERS SWEEP FALCONS WITH SECOND COMEBACK IN ONE WEEK

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team held their senior day on Saturday afternoon as they hosted the Albertus Magnus Falcons where the Chargers would come away with two wins on the day, with a big 10-2 comeback.

Game 1 Rapid Recap:
  • The Falcons would strike first putting up three runs in the first inning that would come off a string of hits, including a double fro Galarza to drive in two. The Chargers would look to strike back and keep the game close as they would score two in the bottom of the first. Evan Dennis (East Ryegate, VT.) would continue his hot hitting and extend his hitting streak to six games as he would drive in Sean Roeger (Salem, N.H.). Dylan Watson (Byfield, Mass.) would follow with a single that would bring in Dennis to make it 3-2.
  • The Falcons would explode for seven runs in the third inning to jump out to a 10-2 lead with the Chargers aiming to fight back for the second time in a week. The Chargers would start their comeback in the fourth inning when Jared Schmitt (Surry, N.H.) would double to left center that would score Watson and Dennis. Griffen Wheeler (Penacook, N.H.) would lay down a sacrifice bunt that would score Noah Staffier (Beverly, Mass.). The Falcons would get another two in the fifth inning to be up 12-5.
  • The Chargers would continue their hot hitting, and comeback with a Watson single that scored Roeger. That would be followed by a Devin Montalvo (Coram, N.Y.) single to right field to score Watson. Schmitt would come up and blast his first home run of the year to left field that would make it a 12-10 game.
  • The Chargers would complete the eight run comeback in the eighth inning on a Dennis single to center field, scoring Roeger. Wheeler would lay down another sacrifice bunt that brought home Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, VT.) and an Evan Dennis try for third that was thrown over the head of the third basemen and he would come into score to give the Chargers the lead!
On the Mound:
  • Mike Hogan (Piermont, N.H.) would get the start for the Chargers and pitch 2.2 innings with two strikeouts and three walks. Justin Powers (Peabody, Mass.) would follow Hogan and throw 1.2 innings with two strikeouts and one earned run. Jack Mullen (Norfolk, Mass.) would finish the game as he pitched 4.2 innings, only giving up four hits and sitting down nine thanks to the strikeout with zero runs given up. 
At the Plate:
  • Jared Schmitt would lead the charge with a team high five runs batted in with three of them coming off his home run in a two-for-four day. Dylan Watson would have a three-for-four day where he would score two runs and drive in three runs himself. Evan Dennis would go two-for-three and drive in two runs and score three himself. 
Game 2 Rapid Recap:
  • The Falcons would strike first again with a sacrifice fly. The Chargers would follow that up by scoring six unanswered runs through the first, second, and third innings. Cooper O'Brien would double to center and drive in Sean Roeger. Evan Dennis would extend the hitting streak to seven games with a double to right center to bring home O'Brien. Dylan Watson would send his first collegiate home run over the right field fence that would put the Chargers up 4-1. 
  • The Chargers would score another run in the second off a Dennis single that would score Jess Chaves (Taunton, Mass.). The third inning would see Watson hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in Roeger to make it 6-1.
  • The Falcons would get a run back before the Chargers would make it 9-2 in the fourth. Mike Krouse (Peabody, Mass.) would drive in Finn MacLennan (Ipswich, Mass.) before Brady Holmes (West Yarmouth, Mass.) would bring home Hunter Morse (Sunapee, N.H.). Chris Giordano (Saugus, Mass.) would reach on a fielder's choice that would score Krouse. 
  • The Falcons would score four runs in the fifth to make it 9-6. The Chargers would add some insurance in the fifth themselves as Janai Cruz (Manchester, N.H.) would score on a wild pitch. 
On the Mound: 
  • Rex Hill (Andover, VT.) would get the start in this game as he pitched three innings allowing just two runs on three hits while striking out two. Kenneth Spratt (Wantagh, N.Y.) would follow Hill with 1.0 innings pitched where he would allow no runs, or no hits. Colby Russell (Dover, N.H.) would pitch 0.1 innings allowing just one hit. Kam Lovelette (Enosburg, VT.) would pitch 0.2 innings and allow one hit while striking out one. Simon Keary (Penacook, N.H.) would pitch 0.2 innings giving up 1 hit, while Josh Finkle (Littleton, N.H.) would finish the inning with 0.1 innings and allowing one hit. Brady Young (Stratham, N.H.) would finish the game and get his first collegiate save as he would pitch 1.0 innings with two strikeouts and one hit. 
At the Plate: 
  • Dylan Watson would lead the way with his first collegiate home run and finish with three runs batted in during a one-for-one day. Mike Krouse would have a two-for-three day with one run score and one run batted in. Brady Holmes would go one-for-three with one run batted in as well.
Up Next:
The Chargers stay home as they host Norwich University for a double header with playoff seeding on the line with first pitch scheduled for 12PM.
