CHARGERS RALLY FALLS SHORT AGAINST THE VIKINGS

SALEM, MASS. - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team took on the Salem State University Vikings in Salem, Massachusetts on Monday afternoon in a non-conference match up for the two schools. 

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Chargers continued their string of striking first for the third game in a row as Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.) would hit his fourth home run of the year to get the scoring going. Salem responded in the second inning off a triple and would come around to score on an error. The Vikings would take the lead in the bottom of the third inning off a sacrifice fly by Duggan. 
  • The Chargers would get three back in the fourth that started with Janai Cruz (Manchester, N.H.) scoring off a balk, followed by Jesse Chaves (Taunton, Mass.) would single to left field that would score Mike Krouse (Peabody, Mass.). Chaves would come around to score on a balk to bring home the third run of the inning. 
  • The Vikings would get eight runs through the fourth, fifth, and sixth to give them a 10-4 lead. The Chargers would try to claw their way back into this one that started with an Evan Dennis (East Ryegate, VT.) would get his third home run of the season. Dylan Watson (Byfield, Mass.) would single to center to bring across Mike Krouse, while the Chargers would get their last run of the game off an O'Brien double that would bring home Brady Holmes (West Yarmouth, Mass.).
On the Mound:
  • Colin Burchard (Upton, Mass.) would get the start in this game, where he would pitch three innings, allowing two runs off four hits with just one strikeout. Nick Fenuccio (Worcester, Mass.) would come in for relief and get the loss in this one. He would pitch two innings, allowing three earned runs off four hits with two strikeouts. Simon Keary (Penacook, N.H.) would come in next, pitching one inning, allowing four runs on four hits. Brady Young (Stratham, N.H.) and Justin Powers (Peabody, Mass.) would both pitch an inning each with a strikeout each.
At the Plate: 
  • Cooper O'Brien and Evan Dennis would both hit home runs to lead the Chargers offense. Mike Krouse would go three-for-four on the day scoring two runs and walking once. Dyaln Watson would drive in a run as well during a two-for-four day.

The Chargers return to conference play as they take on Johnson & Wales tomorrow in Providence, Rhode Island.
