CHARGERS FALL TO COUGARS IN CONFERENCE MATCHUP

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team traveled to Providence Tuesday morning to play their fourth conference game of the year against top seeded Cougars of Johnson & Wales.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers would put themselves in position to score in the top of the second with a Jared Schmitt (Surry, N.H.) single that advanced Noah Staffier (Beverly, Mass.) to second. Both Schmitt and Staffier would steal to move to third and second. The Cougars got the scoring started in the second inning and wouldn't look bad as they made it 3-0 early. Yedan Diaz would drive in two, while Jack Obert would drive in another run. 
  • Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.) would hit his 39th career double, tying him with head coach, Tom White for most doubles in program history. Dylan Watson would go on to get hits in the fifth and the eigth to lead the Chargers. 
On the Mound:
  • Zach Rogers (Mashpee, Mass.) would get the start in this one, where he would pitch four innings, allowing six runs on ten hits while striking out two. Will Carpenter (Medfield, Mass.) would come in to relieve him striking out three while allowing two runs on two hits in two innings pitched. Brady Young (Stratham, N.H.) would follow him only pitching an inning while striking out one with no hits. Trevor Robichaud (Leominster, Mass.) would close out the game for the Chargers, only allowing a hit in one inning of work. 
At the Plate: 
  • Watson would lead the way with a two-for-four day that saw him get two singles. O'Brien hit his tenth double of the year, closing in on his college career high of twelve in one season.
Up Next:
The Chargers will be the sight of the doubleheader against New England College where the Pilgrims will be considered the home team on Friday, April 4th with first pitches scheduled for 12pm and 3pm.
