CHARGERS DROP DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST GORDON

WENHAM, MASS. - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team traveled to Wenham, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon to play two, seven innings games against Gordon college where the Chargers would fall in both games. 

Rapid Recap Game 1:
  • The Chargers would find a way to strike first in the second inning thanks to a line drive double from Noah Staffier (Beverly, Mass.) that would bring home Sean Roeger (Salem, N.H.) to take a 1-0 lead. Gordon would counter in the bottom half of the inning with a double from Gabe Fales who drove in teammate Evan Clark.
  • Gordon would strike three more times in the third, and fifth to take a 4-1 lead off a rbi single off the bat of Robert Dunkle in the fifth, and doubles from CJ Demers, and Evan Clark to give Gordon the advantage. 
  • The Chargers would get one run back in the seventh inning thanks to a rbi single from Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.) that brought home Brady Holmes (West Yarmouth, Mass.) making it 4-2.
On the Mound: 
  • Will Carpenter (Medfield, Mass.) got the start and would receive the loss for the Chargers as he pitched 5.0 innings, striking out six and allowing four runs on nine hits. Colin Burchard (Upton, Mass.) would come in relief, pitching 1.0 innings while giving up two hits. 
At the Plate: 
  • Noah Staffier for lead the way as he went one-for-three at the plate driving in a run while having the Chargers only extra base hit. O'Brien would go one-for-four and would drive in the Chargers second run of the game thanks to his single. Sean Roeger would go two-for-four on the day.
Rapid Recap Game 2:
  • Gordon College would strike first in game two getting one run across in the first inning thanks to a sacrifice bunt from Robert Dunkle that brought home Jonathan McIntyre. The Chargers would come storming back in the fifth as they would take the lead off a rbi single from Devin Montalvo (Coram, N.Y.) bringing home Sean Roeger and Finn MacLennan (Ipswich, Mass.) to make it 2-1.
  • Gordon College went on to score four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-2 lead off a string of base hits bringing home multiple runs.
On the Mound:
  • Simon Keary (Penacook, N.H.) would get the start for the Chargers and would throw 4.0 innings only allowing one run on two hits, with three strikeouts. Jack Mullen (Norfolk, Mass.) would come in next pitching 1.0 innings while striking out four and allowing no runs. Matt Moreau (Hope, R.I.) would get the loss for the Chargers allowing three runs on one hit. Brady Young (Stratham, N.H.) would close out the game, pitching 1.0 innings allowing one hit. 
At the Plate:
  • Devin Montalvo would lead the way for the Chargers driving in the only two runs for the team on a perfect two-for-two day at the plate. Sean Roeger would go one-for-three and come across to score during Montalvo's single. 
Up Next:
The Chargers return to action Friday night after a date change due to weather as they will play a double header back in conference play against St. Joseph's (Maine) at Franklin Pierce University with first pitches scheduled for 6pm and 9pm.
