CHARGERS DROP ROAD GAME TO THE BISON

DUDLEY, MASSACHUSETTS - The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team picked up their first loss of the season to Nichols College Monday evening, 105-68. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Bison would score first to start the opening quarter, but junior Makenna Grillone (Walpole, N.H.) would respond with a three-pointer to give the Chargers an early 3-2 lead. The Chargers continued to battle with junior Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.) making a jumper and sophomore Emma Felker (Dracut, Mass.) hitting a layup to keep the score within one point with 7:26 to play in the quarter. The Bison would go on a 10-4, but first-year Molly Denis (Plattsburgh, N.Y.)  would hit a pair of free throws to halt the run, as the Chargers trailed 18-15. The Bison would respond and go on a 17-6 run to take a 35-21 lead over the Chargers as the first quarter came to a close. 
  • The Bison would start the second quarter off hitting a three-pointer, but Grillone would respond with a made layup with 8:12 left in the second quarter. The Bison would continue to extend their lead as they went on a 13-3 run, but first-year Sierra Derby (Richford, Vt.) would make a layup to stop the Bison's run. Sophomore Larissa Daigle (Fort Kent, Maine) and Mitchell would each notch a free throw, but the Bison would control the remainder of the second quarter taking 67-35 lead at the half. 
  • Mitchell would kick off the third quarter for the Chargers with back-to-back buckets, but the Bison would rally and making shots of their own to maintain their lead. The Chargers would continue to battle, with senior Courtney Brewster (Castleton, Vt.) chipping in a layup with 4:14 left in the third quarter.  The Bison and Chargers would continue to battle, but would take the lead heading into the final quarter of action.
  • Brewster would start the scoring off in the final quarter with a jumper, followed by sophomore Delaney Raymond (Lyndon, Vt.) hitting a three-pointer, but the Bison would continue to extend their lead as they would go on a 10-3, but Derby would make a layup with 2:20 left in the quarter, but the Bison would continue to take control as they came away with a 105-68 win over the Chargers. 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Mitchell led the way for the Chargers with 23 points (6-13 FG, 1-6 3 PT, 10-10 FT), nine rebounds, and four assists while Grillone tallied 10 points (4-6 FG, 2-4 3 PT), three rebounds, and one steal. Brewster recorded seven points (2-3 FG, 3-4 FT), four rebounds, and one block. 
  • Abrianna Vazquez paced the Bison with 29 points (11-23 FG, 3-5 3 PT, 4-4 FT), three rebounds, and three steals while Alyvia Smith added 19 points (7-13 FG, 5-8 3 PT), three assists, and three steals. 
  • The Bison would take advantage of a 46-19 bench points margin, while also having 56-28 points in the paint margin over the Chargers. 
Up Next:
The Chargers will take a break for Thanksgiving when they return to action on Wednesday, December 4th as they travel to Amherst, Massachusetts to take on Amherst College with a 7:00 PM start.
