WELLESLEY, MASSACHUSETTS - The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team picked up its fourth win of the season after defeating Wellesley College 56-51. The Chargers start the season at 4-0 for the first time in 14 years after today's win.
Rapid Recap:
- The Blue scored first Saturday afternoon with a pair of made free throws, but junior Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.) responded with a three pointer. The teams traded points throughout the quarter, with junior Makenna Grillone (Walpole, N.H.) hit the three-pointer to give the Chargers a 12-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- Senior Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine) started the second quarter with a made two-pointer to extend the Chargers lead to 14-7, but Blue responded with a three pointer to cut the lead. Holt then responded with a made layup to give the visitors a six-point lead with 7:26 left in the quarter. The Blue continued to battle and went on quick 6-0 run, but sophomore Emma Felker (Dracut, Mass.) halted the run followed by another made layup by Holt to give the Chargers the 20-16 lead with 4:45 left in the second quarter. The Blue made a layup and three-pointer to tie the quarter up, but a pair of made free throws by Mitchell gave the Chargers the 25-24 lead heading into the half.
- Mitchell sparked a 9-2 run for the Chargers with a layup as Holt hit a three-pointer early in the third quarter. Felker would nail a three-pointer to give the Chargers the nine point lead with 5:08 left in the quarter. The Blue continued to chip away at the Chargers lead with back-to-back made layups, but Holt and Mitchell responded with a layup of their own to give the visitors the 44-39 lead heading into the final quarter of action.
- The Blue started the final quarter with a pair of made free throws, but the Chargers responded with a 6-2 run sparked by a layup and free throw by Mitchell with 6:45 left to play in the final quarter. Senior Courtney Brewster (Castleton, Vt.) extended the Chargers lead into double digits with a layup and jumper with 3:49 left to play. The Blue cut the Chargers lead and went on an 8-0 run in the final three minutes, but a pair of made free throws by first-year Hayden Wilkins (North Concord, Vt.) solidified the 56-51 win for the Chargers.

Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine). "We played with a lot of intensity today. Our team defense is our biggest threat to teams, and we take pride in that. We all had full trust in each other to play each of their rolls effectively and we lean on each other for support."

- Holt tallied 16 points (7-11 FG, 2-5 3 PT), six rebounds, and one steal while Mitchell added 16 points (5-9 FG, 1-3 3 PT, 5-8 FT), 12 rebounds, and two steals. Brewster recorded 11 points (4-7 FG, 3-4 FT), nine rebounds, and one steal.
- Trinity Barrow led the way for the Blue with 19 points (6-15 FG, 1-5 3 PT, 6-8 FT), 10 rebounds, and four steals
- Colby-Sawyer outrebounded the Blue 45-38 while also taking advantage of a 10-7 second chance points margin.
