Chargers Pick Up 3-0 Victory Over Fisher College

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer men's volleyball team picked up a victory on Tuesday night defeating Fisher College by a 3-0 (25-15, 28-26, 25-21) final.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers jumped ahead by a 3-1 lead as sophomore Isaac Davies (Hinesburg, Vt.) and junior Austin Ponsness (Queen Creek, Ariz.) got a kill each. Another 4-1 run highlighted by another kill and ace by Ponsness. Colby-Sawyer continued to succeed taking a 5-0 advantage with two more kills by Davies to take a 15-6 lead. The Falcons countered with a 6-1 run, but a late 7-1 run clinched a first set win for the Chargers.
  • The Chargers earned an early 8-6 lead in the second set with kills by Davies, Ponsness and first year CJ Murphy (Sudbury, Mass.). Fisher College battled back to take a 15-14 lead, but kills by Ponsness and senior Finn Husband (Elk Rapids, Mich.) put the home team back in front. Colby-Sawyer held a 24-20 lead but the Falcons stormed back tying the game at 24-24. The teams traded points before the Chargers ended the set with a pair of kills by Davies to win 28-26.
  • The Chargers held an early 5-2 lead off an ace and a kill by senior Phu Ngo (Everett, Mass.). Fisher stormed back to tie the game at 6-6 and eventually took a 13-9 lead. The lead grew to 18-12, but the Chargers battled back with a 7-0 surge to take the lead back. Colby-Sawyer closed the game on a 5-1 run to win by a 25-21 margin.
Player Spotlight:
"Once we got that team synergy down it was like lightning in a bottle", said first year Patrick Foley (Newton, Mass.). "We all got on the court and gave 100%, no more than 100% and that is what won us the game. It wasn't one person overall it was the team. It felt amazing and it felt amazing to win with this team."

Stats & Figures:
  • Davies led the offense with 19 kills, eight digs and three aces. Ponsness tallied 12 kills and six digs. Ngo added three kills and a team-high 10 digs. 
  • Murphy led the passing with 32 assists with four service aces. 
  • Rafael Fabra led the Falcons with six kills.

The Chargers will take on Elms on March 30th with a 6:00 PM start.
