NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer men's volleyball team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest on Thursday night to Lasell University by a 3-0 final score.
Rapid Recap:
- The Lasers started the first set by jumping ahead 4-2 after a kill by Riley Grenier. Sophomore Isaac Davies (Hinesburg, Vt.) got a kill off the assist from first year CJ Murphy (Sudbury, Mass.) to make it 7-6. Lasell would then go on an 11-0 run to extend their led to 18-6. The Chargers won back a couple points off Lasers errors, but Lasell would take the first set by a 25-9 final.
- Senior Phu Ngo (Everett, Mass.) recorded a kill to put the Chargers up 2-1 in the second set. Sophomore Austin Ponsness (Queen Creek, Ariz.) tallied a kill to further Colby-Sawyer's advantage to 5-3. After Lasell took an 8-7 led, Davies tallied a kill to tie the set at 8-8. After some back-and-forth action, Lasell went on an 11-1 run to win the second set 25-13 and go up 2-0 in the match.
- Lasell began the third set by taking a 3-0 led featuring a kill from Theo Zaharewicz. The Chargers added two points thanks to another kill by Ngo and an attacking error on the Lasers to make it 3-2. The Lasers extended their advantage to four points after another kill from Zaharewicz putting the score at 7-3. Lasell went on a 6-1 run started by a kill from Zaharewicz to go ahead 12-6. The Lasers took control at the end of the set winning 25-13 and earned the victory in three sets.
- Davies led the Chargers with five kills and two digs. Ngo ended the match with two kills and two digs while Murphy led the passing effort with 8 assists.
