WALTHAM, Mass. - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team dropped both matches at the Brandeis University Invitational on Saturday.
Rapid Recap (Brandeis):Â
- The Judges got an early lead in the first set to put the Chargers behind 5-1. Brandeis used four service aces en route to a 25-12 first set victory. Â
- In the second set, the Chargers battled during the first 12 points keeping the score tied at 6-6 with help from sophomore Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.) who had four kills in the second set. The Judges were able to string together eight-consecutive points to lengthen their led and take the second set 25-12.Â
- Brandeis continued to control the game in the third set going on a 10-kill streak winning 25-8 in the third.
Rapid Recap (Roger Williams):Â
- The Chargers went back-and-forth in the first set against the Hawks with sophomore Makaila Blinne (Palm Bay, Fla.) earning three kills and sophomore Katie Mollberg (Naples, Fla.) recording a pair of kills. A late 10-3 run from the Hawks secured the first set win.Â
- In the second set both teams were tied at 10-10 before the Chargers took three-straight points to hold a lead. Roger Williams countered with a 8-0 run to take control in the set win.Â
- The Chargers battled back from being down early with a 6-0 run highlighted by a pair of kills by Blinne. Senior captain Ameesah Cotton (Newburgh, N.Y.) recorded four kills to help Colby-Sawyer win the third set 25-20.Â
- The Hawks regained control in the fourth set leading the entire set winning 25-20 to secure the match win.Â
Notes & Notables:
- Majenski led the Chargers in kills today with 15 total over the two matches. Blinne followed with 13 over both matches including a season-high 10 in the second match.Â
- Sophomore Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H.) led the passing again for the Chargers with 38 total assists over the two matches.Â
- Sophomore Audra Fontes (Fresno, Calif.) led the defensive effort with 16 digs on the day.
