Chargers Net 3-1 Victory Against Rivier University

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Chargers men's soccer team picked up their second Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win of the season on Wednesday defeating Rivier University by a 3-1 final. 

Rapid Recap:
  • Colby-Sawyer and Rivier both battled early with first year Yener Bartolon (West Palm Beach, Fla.) making two early saves for the Chargers. In the 24th minute the Chargers broke the 0-0 tie as first year Josh Warner (Barrington, N.H.) finished home a header on a cross from Jadon Baros (Colorado Springs, Colo.). In the 30th minute the Raiders responded as Jason Harlow on an assist by Ryan Hadouche to even the score. Senior Callum Buchanan (Eastbourne, England) and first year Owen Richard (Lee, N.H.) each launched shots, but were stopped by the Rivier keeper to keep the game knotted at 1-1 heading into the second half. 
  • In the 53rd minute the Chargers jumped back in front as Buchanan was gifted a ball on a deflection before placing the ball into the back of the net. The offense continued in the 62nd minute as senior Finn Husband (Elk Rapids, Mich.) finished home a crosser from senior Kevin Mollison (Gorham, Maine) to extend the lead to 3-1. The Raiders tried to respond, but Bartolon stayed perfect in the net in the second half making four saves to hold the lead for the Charger win.
Player Spotlight:

"Big win today for the boys for sure", said senior Finn Husband (Elk Rapids, Mich.). "We needed this win and I think we are just going to build on top of it. There is a lot of good energy with us and a lot of things to work on, but I think this game can be a turning point for us."

Stats & Figures:
  • Warner notched his first collegiate goal in the 26th minute, while Husband tallied his second goal of the season and Buchanan picked up a team-leading fifth of the year.
  • Bartolon moves to 4-3-2 on the season making seven stops in the full 90 minutes.

The Chargers travel to New Haven, Conn. on Saturday in a 12 PM match against Albertus Magnus College.
