Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Chargers Blanked By Albertus Magnus 2-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Chargers men's soccer fell on Saturday afternoon to Albertus Magnus College by a 2-0 final. Colby-Sawyer falls to 8th place in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) standings with six conference games remaining on the schedule.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Falcons tried to get on the board early in the first half getting two quick chances within the first nine minutes of play, but first year Yener Bartolon (West Palm Beach, Fla.) made a pair of big saves to keep the game 0-0. The first chances for Colby-Sawyer came in the 23rd and 31st minutes as senior Callum Buchanan (Eastbourne, England) had a pair of shots go high. Albertus Magnus had a last chance to end the first half, but the header was too high to get the halftime score at 0-0. 
  • The Falcons got on the board in the 58th minute as Kelvin Cortez finished a shot by Bartolon to give the home team a 1-0 lead. In the 66th minute the lead doubled as Johan Stagnaro found EJ Gonzalez who placed the ball into the back of the net. First year Brandon Mejia (West Palm Beach, Fla.) tried to get the Chargers offense going with a shot in the 70th minute, but the ball didn't find the target. Sophomore Jadon Baros (Colorado Springs, Colo.) took one final shot the Chargers, but it also couldn't find the net. 
Stats & Figures:
  • Bartolon made six saves for the Chargers in the loss. Yener's record goes to 4-4-2 after the loss. 
  • The Chargers were out shot by the Falcons by a 20-6 total with a 8-0 on target differential.

The Chargers will face off against Northern Vermont University - Lyndon on October 4th with a 3:30 PM start time.
