Husband Nets Equalizer as Chargers Draw with Anna Maria College 1-1

NEW LONDON, NH- The Chargers men's soccer team battled it out with Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Anna Maria College to a 1-1 draw at Capraso Field on Saturday afternoon.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers and AMCATS were playing in a 0-0 stand still for a majority of the first half. Colby-Sawyer tallied two early chances with shots by senior Callum Buchanan (Eastbourne, England) and senior Kevin Mollison (Gorham, Maine), but both were caught by Anna Maria goalie Valter Santiago.
    The Chargers and Amcats remained scoreless until 33:15 when Hezekiah Adeyeye registered his second goal of the season for the AMCATS, giving them the 1-0 advantage off an assist from Brett Smith.
  • Coming into the second half, the Chargers found some life in the game as senior Finn Husband (Elk Rapids, Mich.) found the back of the net at 57:17 to even the score at 1-1 off an assist from Buchanan. Colby-Sawyer tried to capitalize on this opportunity late in the game to take the lead with shots by sophomore Jadon Baros (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Buchannan respectively, but were both shut down by Santiago saves. The Chargers had one final attempt as senior Nick Mason (East Bridgewater, Mass.) took a shot that went wide left with less than a minute to play, keeping the game to a 1-1 draw.
Stats & Figures:
  • Husband becomes the seventh player this season to get a goal for Colby-Sawyer this season netting the fifth of his collegiate career. Buchanan picked up his fourth assist of the season to continue his career-best season for the Chargers. 
  • First year Yener Bartolon (West Palm Beach, Fla.) secures the tie to bring his record to 3-3-2 on the season. Bartolon made 10 saves and allowed one goal.

The Chargers finish off the day with a 3-4-2 overall record, and 1-2-1 in the GNAC. They look ro improve their record against New England College on September 25th with a 4 PM kickoff.
