MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team fell short, losing 3-0 (25-10, 25-21, 25-5) against the Middlebury College Panthers.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers and the Panthers immediately battled going back and forth in the first set. The Panthers gained momentum from some impactful kills and aces from their starters. Chargers pushed back with a block from senior Ameesah Cotten (Newburgh, N.Y.) and sophomore Katie Mollberg (Naples, Fla.).
- Motivated to pick up their game, the Chargers struck back with a kill from sophomore Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H.) and another from sophomore Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.). Colby-Sawyer jumped ahead 12-5 as sophomore Makaila Blinne (Palm Bay, Fla.) fired a kill to continue the intensity for the Chargers. Middlebury fought back ending the set on a 15-5 run to win the second set 25-21.
- The Panthers took the early advantage in the third set leading 9-1. Majenski tried to get the Chargers back with a second kill, but the Panthers were too strong as Middlebury finished off Colby-Sawyer in three sets.
Notes & Notables:
- Majenski led the Chargers attack with six kills, followed closely by Mollberg and Blinne who each added four kills.
- Patnode led the passing efforts with 16 assists for Colby-Sawyer.
- Sophomore Audra Fontes (Fresno, Calif.) led the defensive effort with five digs. Cotten added a pair of solo blocks and an assisted block.
