NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team secured a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win on Saturday afternoon against the University of Saint Joseph by a 3-1 (25-23, 25-17, 25-16, 25-20) final.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers swiped the first two points from the Bluejays with senior Mia Harmon (Concord, N.H.) getting her first kill of the game from sophomore Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H.). Despite this quick lead, the Bluejays came back swinging to keep the Chargers at bay for a couple of points. The Chargers fought hard until the end, maintaining a tight score with help from a kill by senior Ameesah Cotten (Newburgh, N.Y.) and another by sophomore Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.), but the Bluejays would take the first set 25-23.
- The Chargers turned up the heat in the second set with a kills by senior Olivia Werner (Williston, VT.) and another two from Harmon. The Bluejays kept up until the end of the battle and fought by returning a couple kills and an ace. The Chargers continued to push past the Bluejays, securing the lead and winning the set to tie it up at 1-1.
- In the third set, the Chargers came out strong getting the early advantage with three consecutive kills. The Chargers continued to extend their led with kills from sophomore Katie Molberg (Naples, Fla.) and Majenski to win the third set 25-16.
- The Chargers found themselves behind 11-6 in the fourth set but were able to rattle off a 15-6 run to regain the lead. Cotten's two kills along with another by Mollberg and Majenski helped the Chargers secure the victory over the Bluejays ending the fourth set with a 25-20 final.
Stats & Figures:
- Harmon led the team in kills with 16 followed behind Majenski and Cotten each recording 10 kills.
- Patnode led the passing effort for the Chargers with 44 assists.
- Sophomore Audra Fontes (Fresno, Cal.) recorded a season-high 24 digs along with two service aces.

"In today's game we brought a lot of energy and came to fight", said senior
Mia Harmon (Concord, N.H.). "I saw a switch in our play the past few practices and we are having fun and playing for each other. I'm proud of everyone on this team working hard every day! It's coming down to the end of the season and there are only so many games left to put it all out there and play our hearts out. I am just thankful to be part of this team for my last year."
