WESTON, Mass. - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team came up short in their five-set battle against Regis College (25-19, 26-28, 25-10, 26-28, 15-10) on Tuesday night. The Pride improve their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) record to 6-2 as the Chargers fall to a 4-3 conference record.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers kept the score tight early in the first set thanks to a couple kills by senior Olivia Werner (Williston, VT.) and sophomore Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.). The Pride began to pull away with the lead after connecting on three kills and a service ace to make it 16-10. The Chargers battled back with senior Mia Harmon (Concord, N.H.) earning three kills and a service ace, but it would not be enough as the Pride took the first set with a 25-19 final.
- Tied at 12-12 in the second set, the Chargers strung four points together that was started by a kill from senior Ameesah Cotten (Newburgh, N.Y.) to give them the 16-12 advantage. The Pride made a late comeback to tie it at 25-25 yet the Chargers continued to compete as Majenski would earn the winning kill to even the match at 1-1.
- The Pride snagged the opening three points in the third set and grew their led to 15-4 off a service ace from Rita Dow. The Chargers could not recover from the deficit as the Pride would win the set 25-10.
- After falling behind three points in the fourth set, the Chargers answered by winning six of the next seven points to give them the 6-4 lead. The set continued to be a back-and-forth battle with Regis regaining a 13-9 advantage, but Colby-Sawyer didn't back down and tied the set at 20-20. The Chargers would win four of the final five points with sophomore Makaila Blinne (Palm Bay, Fla.) and Werner getting the final two kills to force a fifth set.
- The Chargers gained the 9-5 lead in the fifth set thanks to a kill from sophomore Katie Mollberg (Naples, Fla.) and a pair of kills from Blinne. The Pride tied the set at 10-10 and would eventually take the final five points to win the match 3-2.
Stats & Figures:
- Makaila Blinne (Palm Bay, Fla.) led the team in kills with a season high of 15 with a .273 kill percentage. Werner followed closely behind Blinne ending the night with 13 kills.
- Mollberg, Harmon, and Cotten each finished the match with five kills apiece.
- Patnode led the Chargers in assists with 38 as well as a registering a season-high in digs with 17 total.
