Chargers Drop GNAC Contest to Lasell University 3-1

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team picked up their second Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss on Wednesday falling to Lasell University by a 3-1 (19-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-15). 

Rapid Recap: 

  • The Chargers took an early 9-4 lead on a pair of kills by senior Olivia Werner (Williston, Vt.) before the visitors countered on a 6-1 run to tie the set at 10-10. Colby-Sawyer responded back on a 7-2 run on a kill by sophomore Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.) and senior Mia Harmon (Concord, N.H.). Another 6-1 spurt helped put the first set away for the home team with Harmon marking two more points. 
  • Lasell responded quickly in the second set jumping ahead 8-4 before using another 7-1 advantage to double the home team at 18-9. The Chargers tried to respond with four-straight points kick started by a senior Ameesah Cotten (Newburgh, N.Y.) kill, but Lasell finished off the Chargers at 25-15.
  • Colby-Sawyer jumped ahead by a 4-0 start, but a responding 14-2 run by the Lasers gave the visitors a 14-6 lead.The Chargers tried to comeback late with four-straight points and a pair of kills by Harmon, but it was too little too late as Lasell took a 2-1 lead. 
  • The fourth set started with both teams knotted up at 6-6, before the Lasers answered with five-straight to lead early. The Chargers got to within 15-12, but the Lasers put together runs of five-straight and five out of six points to close out the match.

Stats & Figures:

  • Harmon (Concord, N.H.) led the Chargers attack with nine kills on a .273 kill percentage. Werner followed with seven kills closely followed by five from Majenski. 
  • Sophomore Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H.) led the passing efforts with 24 assists for Colby-Sawyer.
  • Senior Kaytlin Young (Goffstown, N.H.) led the defensive effort with 12 digs, while Cotten had an impressive four solo and one assisted block performance.

The Chargers are back at the Dan & Kathleen Hogan Sports Center on Saturday for a matchup with the University of Saint Joseph at 1 PM.
