Chargers Fall to Plymouth State University

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team fell to Plymouth State University 3-0 in a non-conference match on Thursday night.  

Rapid Recap:
  • The Panthers came out strong in the first set winning the opening six points to take an early 6-0 advantage. The Chargers fought back with senior Mia Harmon (Concord, N.H.) getting a kill to make it 9-5. Plymouth State would gain momentum in their attack to extend their lead to 16-8 off a kill by Nora Ryan. The Panthers would gone on to secure the first set with a 25-15 final.  
  • In the second set, the Chargers kept the score close thanks to early kills by senior Olivia Werner (Williston, VT.) and Harmon. Plymouth State connected three points that came from a kill by Emilee Flanagan and a pair of services aces by Lilli Stogner bringing the score to 9-5. Sophomore Makaila Blinne (Palm Bay, Fla.) subbed on for Colby-Sawyer and immediately made an impact recording three kills to narrow Plymouth State's advantage to 10-8. After the Panthers reached set point from a service ace by Makayla Marucci, the Chargers continued to battle until the very end, however their efforts wouldn't be enough as Plymouth State would win the second set 25-21. 
  • The Panthers took an early 4-1 lead in the third set after a kill by Aynslee King. Blinne was able to tally another three kills to tie the score at 7-7. Lindsey Sanderson recorded a kill to give Plymouth State a 17-10 advantage. The Chargers tried to make a late push in the set but the Panthers would win the third set with a 25-19 final.  
Stats & Figures: 
  • Blinne lead the team in kills with seven followed behind Werner who ended the night with six kills and three digs.
  • On the defensive side, sophomore Audra Fontes (Fresno, Calif.) made 12 digs while senior Ameesah Cotten (Newburgh, N.Y.) recorded the only solo block for the Chargers. 
  • Sophomore Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H.) led the passing effort with 22 assists along with seven digs and one kill.

The Chargers will be on the road for their final regular season Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match against Elms College on Saturday, October 29th.
