CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball season concluded on Saturday losing to Elms College by a 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-19).
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers started off the day with a kill as senior Ameesah Cotten (Newburgh, N.Y.) fired home a kill from sophomore Makaila Blinne (Palm Bay, Fla.) to get the early advantage. Elms countered and took a 15-11 lead before the Chargers responded with three-straight points highlighted by a kill from senior Olivia Werner (Williston, Vt.). Three more kills by Cotten was not enough as Elms picked up the 25-19 win.
- The Blazers jumped ahead early by a 10-5 margin. The teams would trade points with Elms extending the lead to 19-12. Senior Kaytlin Young (Goffstown, N.H.) launched a service ace part of a 3-1 run to get the Chargers within 20-15, but the Blazers closed it out 25-15.
- Colby-Sawyer started the third set leading by a 6-3 margin ended by a kill by senior Mia Harmon (Concord, N.H.). Elms responded with four-straight to jump ahead. The teams traded points until a Werner kill gave the visitors a 15-13 lead. The Blazers countered with a 8-1 run en route to a 25-19 win of the set.
Stats & Figures:
- Werner led the offense with nine kills on a .259 kill percentage. Cotten followed with eight kills and a solo block.
- Blinne led the passing effort in her first game as the primary setter with 20 assists to go along with seven digs.
- Sophomore Audra Fontes (Fresno, Calif.) led the defensive effort with eight digs.
