BOSTON, Mass. - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team split results in their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match on Saturday featuring Anna Maria College and Simmons University. The Chargers now have a 5-6 conference record with today's results.
Rapid Recap (Anna Maria) W (25-15, 25-16, 25-14):
- The Chargers took the first five points in the first set against the AMCATS that was started by a kill from sophomore Brooke Patnode (Weare, N.H.). Colby-Sawyer furthered their lead after connecting six points thanks to a kill and three service aces by senior Mia Harmon (Concord, N.H.) to make it 17-5. Junior Maria Avila (Goffstown, N.H.) delivered a service ace to put the Chargers up 1-0.
- In the second set, Anna Maria kept the score close with a couple kills by Patty Agbeh to give the AMCATS a 6-5 advantage. Tied at 12-12, the Chargers pulled away with the lead after a pair of service aces by sophomore Audra Fontes (Fresno, Calif.) and kills from senior Olivia Werner and Harmon to make it 17-12. Colby-Sawyer would take the second set to 25-16.
- Anna Maria had an early 4-2 advantage in the third set after Bella Kozciak recorded two kills. Harmon helped the Chargers regain the lead with a couple kills and a service ace to put them up 8-5. Colby-Sawyer continued to extend their advantage to 15-8 thanks to two kills from Avila, a kill from Patnode, and a service ace from Fontes. Senior Ameesah Cotton (Newburgh, N.Y.) would seal the Chargers victory with a kill, winning the final set 25-14.
- Harmon led the team in kills with 13 kills as well as service aces with seven. Werner recorded 12 kills and both Fontes and Avila earned four service aces apiece. Patnode led the passing effort with 29 assists.
Rapid Recap (Simmons) L (26-24, 25-8, 25-15, 25-16):
- The Chargers took a 6-5 advantage in the first set against the Sharks thanks to a kill by sophomore Ally Majenski (Marshfield, Mass.). Simmons would string together five points that was initiated by an attacking error on Cotten to put the Sharks up 10-6. After Simmons extended their lead to 16-11, Colby-Sawyer battled their way back to even the score at 18-18. Werner and Majenski helped the Chargers secure the first set with a couple kills and a setting error by Meghan McNamara to give Colby-Sawyer the 1-0 advantage.
- The Sharks came out strong in the second set taking an early 6-2 lead that was started by a kill from Jayla Parnell. Simmons continued to further their advantage connecting the final 12 points of the set, winning 25-8 to tie the match at 1-1.
- In the third set, the Chargers were first to snag a 5-2 lead with a kill from Patnode as well as a block from Majenski and Cotten. Simmons would go on a seven-point run that was started by a kill from Sydney Iannantuono to put them up 10-6. Colby-Sawyer competed to keep the score close, but the Sharks would once again connect regain the attacking momentum and take the third set with a 25-15 final.
- Simmons quickly took a 9-3 advantage in the fourth set. Sophomore Katie Mollberg recorded a kill to reduce the Sharks lead to 9-7, but Simmons would tally six points respectively to make it 15-8. Colby-Sawyer
- Majenski finished the match with nine kills, four digs, and a block. On the defensive side, Cotten led the Chargers with three blocks and Fontes ended the match with 17 digs.
